Staff in the Prep are well qualified, highly motivated and enthusiastic about their subjects and their teaching. This means that TPS pupils are encouraged to develop their self-confidence and respect for others in a positive working environment.
There are ten classes in the Prep School with two each in Years 3,4,5 and 6 and single classes of boys taking the Common Entrance syllabus in Year 7 and Year 8. All of our girls leave to go to senior independent schools at the end of Y6.
Pupils in Year 3 have their own class teacher with subject specialist teaching in Art, French, ICT, Library, Music and PE. From Year 4 pupils follow a secondary-style timetable visiting specialist teachers for all subjects. They have a Tutor whom they see everyday in the morning for registration. This tutor time is a vital part of the day when pupils are given information and assisted to organise themselves for the day ahead.
We are particularly proud of our all-inclusive approach to Sports, Plays and Music. All pupils take some part in school productions and concerts and by regularly running B and even C teams everyone has the opportunity to represent TPS in sports fixtures at some time during the season, whatever their ability.
Our residential trips are very popular and provide an excellent opportunity to further team-building skills and foster greater independence. Year 4 and 5 pupils attend an adventure activity centre in Devon, Year 6 pupils travel to a French Chateau and Year 7 and 8 pupils enjoy an outdoor pursuits extravaganza in Pembrokeshire. In autumn 2008 Year 7 and 8 took part in a residential team-building activity. |
