Involvement in sport is an essential part of each child’s development. At TPS we aim to offer a wide variety of opportunities for children to try different sports, encouraging each individual to extend his/her ability.
From Reception children have specialist PE lessons. In Pre-Prep the children will engage in a variety of learning activities which include dance, gymnastics, games and swimming for Years 1 and 2.
As the children move to the Prep School they have one PE lesson and one afternoon of games each week along with swimming for some year groups. During games lessons the boys participate in football, rugby and cricket and the girls in netball and rounders. Outside coaches also provide additional specialist coaching.
Pupils play in matches against local schools from Year 3. The number of matches increase as they move up through the Prep School. Our aim is to involve all the pupils in competitive fixtures and everyone will have competed for the school during their time at TPS.
In addition to the above, the pupils also have the opportunity to play volleyball, hockey, basketball, table tennis and badminton. They also take part in gymnastics, athletics and cross country. Pupils can also do fencing. All of these are offered as part of a wide-ranging school club programme, which it changed termly.
A Year 7 and 8 programme includes squash, badminton and golf.
Swimming takes place at Sunbury Leisure Centre with specialist coaches. Years 1, 3, 4 and 5 swim for one term in the year, whilst Year 2 swim in both the Spring and Summer terms. The Swimming Gala is held for Years 3 – 8 at Hampton Open Air Pool in the Summer Term.
Throughout the year children are involved in a number of House Sports competitions. The highlights are the Swimming Gala and Sports’ Days in the Summer term.
