“Music is a moral law.  It gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness – a gaiety and life to everything.” Plato

Music plays an important part in TPS life with all children involved in playing in concerts throughout their time at the school.

Year 1 – 6: All pupils have one singing lesson each week, this is in addition to their instrumental lessons.

Year 1: Pupils are introduced to tuned and untuned percussion instruments.

Year 2: Pupils are introduced to recorders.

In Years 1 and 2, pupils sing a variety of action songs to develop coordination and motor skills. The songs also give them an understanding of the basic elements of music.

Years 3 – 8: All pupils play for concerts and Assemblies.  Music is arranged by our staff to meet the ability of each player.

Currently we are teaching clarinet, flute, guitar, piano, saxophone, trumpet, violin and cello. More than half the pupils at TPS have private instrumental tuition, in the above instruments.  Most of these pupils are prepared for the examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

All pupils take part in school productions and musicals each year. The Autumn Term saw a musical production of the Nativity by the Pre-Prep, an orchestra from Years 6 and 8 played in the Carol Service and there was also an Evening of Music and Drama which featured the Year 7 production of “The Beast of the Baskervilles". The Year 7 play was complimented by some brilliant  musical performances. Our latest productions were Mr Benn'' for Years 3 and 4 and ''The Adventures of Mr Toad'' for Years 5 and 6.
